What are the hours of the Library? and, Where is the Library located?

How do I get a Library card?

A GateWay student ID card serves as a Library card and may be obtained at GateWay Enrollment Services in the IE building. The first card is free to registered students. The card is good not only for services within the Library, but also for access to the computer labs on campus. The Library can also issue just a Library card or a Library ID number. Library cards are free of charge to any resident of Maricopa County over the age of 18, with a current photo ID and proof of address. Young people under the age of 18, not currently enrolled at GateWay, must be supervised by a parent and are not eligible for card services.

GateWay Library cards and IDs are valid at all 10 Maricopa Community College libraries for checking out materials. Each of the libraries has different policies regarding check-out, overdue fines and library debts. The cardholder is responsible for all materials checked out on his or her card.

Can I connect to the Library catalog from home?

Yes. The Library has a web-based library catalog available from our homepage by selecting the Library Catalog. It is a shared catalog, containing the holdings for all 10 Maricopa Community College libraries.

How long can I keep materials and may I renew them?

Loan periods and renewal limits vary depending on the type of material:

Books 4 weeks 1 renewal
Magazines/Journals In Library Use Only no renewals
Reserves 2 hours, In Library Use Only no renewals
Media: DVDs             7 days 1 renewal
Instructional Media  Faculty: 7 days; Students: In Library Use Only 1 renewal

Renew items by calling the Circulation Desk at (602) 286-8454 or renew online using the Web Catalog's My Account feature, by entering your MEID + My Maricopa password. Students, faculty and staff may borrow up to 20 items at one time, with a limit of 5 DVD's.  Community members may borrow up to 10 items at one time, with a single DVD limit.

What is the fine for overdue materials?  Books 28 days overdue and non-books 14 days overdue will be considered lost.

GateWay does not charge fines on overdue materials. However, if material are not returned within the grace period, you will be billed for the lost items, at the list price of the item, plus a $10 nonrefundable processing fee per item.  [Note: There was an increase in the processing fee amount, from $5 to $10, as of 9/1/14 approved by the MCCCD Governing Board].  Please return or renew materials on time.

Borrower has 90 days from the assumed lost date to return lost material and have the debt reversed, with the exclusion of the nonrefundable processing fee(s).  After 90 days, lost items must be paid for, whether returned or not.  Refunds will not be issued for paid lost items if returned 90 days or more after the assumed lost date.  Payment may be made using cash, check or credit card at the Cashiers Office located in the IEB, Enrollment Services; or, may be paid online using My.Maricopa Self-Service.  The Library will remove the debt from the library record, upon presentation of the payment receipt at the Circulation desk.

Course Reserves are the exception.  If material is not returned promptly, the cost of the lost item and the $10 processing fee per item will be billed the day after the due date.  No refund or reversals will be issued.

Can I use the Internet at your library? What about e-mail?

Internet access is available to GateWay registered students on a first-come, first-served basis for information access and research. Information may be downloaded or e-mailed.   Pay4Print is now in effect (10 cents/page). You can check your web-based e-mail accounts from the library computers, as long as it does not require changing settings. There are special provisions for community borrowers with some restrictions, including a one-hour time limit per day.  There are two workstations set aside for community users. 

Can I type my paper or a resume at the Library?

The Library has the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint and spreadsheet applications, on our computers.  We no longer have typewriters available.

Do you have study rooms available?

The Library has 6 study rooms available, first come, first serve.  Groups are given preference over single user.  The Library also has one designated Quiet Study room, open for individuals to study in a quiet space.  Each of the study rooms has a large monitor.  Laptops and cables can be borrowed for use in the Library, and attached to the monitor for working on presentations. 

How do I access the Library databases from home?

Only currently registered students, faculty and staff are eligible for off-campus access due to licensing provisions. Logon to the databases with your MEID and My Maricopa password.  For more information, see Off-Campus Access.
